Besides excellence in the training programme, enabling students to acquire skills and develop solid knowledge on olive oil production, the Master in Olive Growing and Oil Technology has a fundamental appeal: the cultural diversity shared by students from 25 countries. Agricultural engineer Ahlam Drissi El Bouzaidi, graduated in her home country of Morocco before continuing her studies in the 14th edition of the Master in 2012. She highlights the practical training that she received: “Participation in the practical sessions and field visits gave me direct contact with the olive growers and oil mill masters as well as insight into the latest technological advances in the sector”.

Hristofor began his academic journey at the Agricultural University of Tirana, Albania. In 2012 he graduated in agrifood industrial engineering, and in 2013 travelled to Cordoba to take the Master in Olive Growing and Oil Technology. This opened the door to his professional career, consolidating his “passion for learning”. He then went on to do a doctorate at the same university where he is currently conducting research thanks to a ‘Margarita Salas’, postdoctoral fellowship. He has also worked as an agrifood engineer and technical R&D+i specialist at the renowned Vector Horizonte Company.
He has had a productive professional career in science and is currently project manager for the European project GEN4OLIVE, that focuses on placing multidisciplinary innovation at the service of the olive sector. He is convinced that the “solid training” that he received during the Master in Olive Growing and Oil Technology” has enabled him to manage high-impact research projects in key areas such as phenolic olive compounds and olive oil quality. “I will certainly recommend this Master to any student interested in studying olive growing and oil technology in greater depth. In 2005 Ana combined her time at the Master in Olive Growing and Oil Technology with her farm advisory work. Before joining the olive oil industry, she worked at the Guadalquivir River Basin Authority, in the Department of River Channel Actions. She is currently manager of the Santa Margarita Oil Mill of Cordoba, where she is responsible for quality control, overseeing all stages —from the olives’ arrival at the mill to the processing of the EVOO.
Ana’s participation in the Master in Olive Growing and Oil Technology has been a great source of satisfaction to her. “It opened the door to the world of EVOO and has given me the possibility of developing my professional career in this sector. MIGUEL CALVO ARAGÓN. Former president of the olive cooperative Jesús Nazareno: “I was close to retirement when I joined the Master but it gave me confidence to adopt new ideas”
When Miguel Calvo joined the Master in Olive Growing and Oil Technology in 2010, he already had long-standing experience in the olive sector. He had a degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Cordoba, specialising in agricultural economics, and had worked in companies for plant protection products, agricultural supply cooperatives or irrigation projects and agricultural buildings. Miguel then went on to manage olive orchards in Aguilar de la Frontera and the cooperative Jesús Nazareno, where he was president for eight years.
He explains that what he learnt during the Master gave him the confidence he needed to abandon outdated models and adopt new ideas. “Even though I was close to retirement age, I decided to take the Master because it would give me the training that I needed to help me in the management of the Aguilar de la Frontera cooperative”. Miguel is now retired, but continues to participate actively in agricultural debates.
